A Kind of Portal Virus

A portion of the July 10th Ingress Report featured an audio clip of a partial conversation between Dr. Ezekiel Calvin and Dr. Devra Bogdanovich.

Transcript

Devra: Calvin, I can't wait for the vaccine to be ready. We have to act now. There is something we discovered during research. (some digital beeps are heard) Keep watching the portal. Did you see that? (more digital beeps) It burned out. And soon they all will. It's a kind of portal virus. Deployment starts today. I hope you are ready.

On July 11th, Dr. Martin Schubert released a post regarding an observed increased decay rate in portals.

from the post: I'm sure by now most of you have seen the revelations on the “Ingress Report” about the work by Dr. +Devra Bogdanovich and the CDC on a so-called Portal Virus.

I began investigating as soon as I heard.  Initial results show increased Portal Decay. At this point I am unable to say exactly how much, but the increase seems greater than 200%.  Fully charged Portals will decay in 72 hours

On July 11th, there was a post from IQTech Research.

from the post: In response to the recent unexpected increase in the Portal decay rate, +IQTech Research has doubled the production and deployment of its exclusive Power Cube XM Object.  This should enable Agents to more effectively recharge select Portals.

We condemn the irresponsible actions undertaken by Dr. +Devra Bogdanovich which have led to the current crisis.  We remain confident that countermeasures can and will be developed before our XM reserves are threatened.

ON July 12th Stein Lightman posted about a change in the amount of XM constructs put out by Glyph Hacking.

from the post: Shortly after the Portals began to Decay more rapidly due to +Devra Bogdanovich's 'Portal Virus,' the so-called 'Shaper Glyph Hack' mechanism built into the+Ingress scanner (accessible by long-clicking the HACK button) became significantly more effective at boosting Portal Hacks than it had been previously.

Where is this all leading? Is this a system that is connected and we are seeing how changes in one component ripple through to other parts of the system? Is this manipulation by certain people, corporations, entities?

Glyph Game and What is the Jarvis Society

It is here.  This document was released yesterday ahead of scanner update 1.45.3

An Operation Essex Agent has created this form for more accurate information gathering on glyphs. Please add any glyph sequences you hack in the game to help us see if these messages are just random or perhaps they are being directed - http://goo.gl/rDXqlU

Four people responded to the glyph game being released, including Devra.  This gives hope she is still alive and able to post. Hopefully it is in an unrestricted capacity.  Here is her post:

I have heard disturbing but unconfirmed reports of a new glyph application in some Ingress Scanners.  These must be verified. We need to establish the vector of this hack.  While there is debate on this subject, my official warning is that you use glyphs carefully.

Dr. Oliver Lynton-Wolfe left a comment, one which could be seen as an attack. Although, it is hoped Devra is collecting data and creating a voluntary response to XM exposure, not a forced one as that would place her in the same position as those she is worried about.

Devra... Nervous as usual, aren't you?  Reminds me our little tiff about the Power Cube.  Seems like a hundred years ago.

We all miss +Carrie Campbell.  If indeed she is gone.  However, we must pay close attention to the infinite. To the greater picture here.  Let go Devra... What has Resistance gained for you.  Let go...

And I have been monitoring your experiments.  You will never create a vaccine.  It is impossible.  Give up.  Let go.  The object you are clinging to is not real.

Also to note, Oliver Lynton-Wolfe lists his place of work as The Jarvis Society, what is that?

Here are the other posts about the glyph game - is this good, or bad?
